I like Heath Bell enough, but with any luck, in 5 years the San Diego Padres will already have a World Series title under their belt and not be viewed as a place for elderly, overweight baseball players to slowly ease into retirement. No offense.
I'd like for Heath to comes back and get a hosting gig on TV or radio and make his permanent home in San Diego, but unless Bell finds the fountain of youth, that affects more than just his personality then I really hope the team isn't in a position where they would even consider signing him again.

I appreciate his love for San Diego
but if I were a Marlins fan, this would rub me the wrong way for sure

Yeah, I agree.
Good thing there’s no such thing as a Marlins fan.

Very surprised at all of the NO votes...
Don’t know if you guys are the tinman or just the scarecrow…

Me too
I didn’t think the vote would be so evenly split.

I love Heater
but him coming back to finish his career indicates the position we are in as an organization.
My hope is that we don’t need to sign a 39 year old reliever.
But I would listen to “Bullpen Talk with Heath Bell” every single day.

Exactly. The idea of signing a old reliever seems bad.
Love to have him om Fox Sports San Diego for some booth chat with Mudcat!

I'd hope the padres wouldn't need a 38 year old overweight relief pitcher in 4 years
He’s a nice guy and everything, but yeah, not interested.

Develop a nasty offspeed pitch and I’m sure we could find a spot for you Heath.

Distance over speed might get him a paycheck here

can't wait for him to be the 2016 chad qualls

This might be a good time to ask if Street might have more saves than Bell in 2012.
I’d go with Street. He’ll get more chances next year with close games than the powerful Marlins offense will give Heath.

i can see it now
marlins offer huston street 5 year deal

You got to love SD as an underdog
I spend a few weeks in SD from Phoenix, a zonie, and have followed this team since the ’80s. Nothing like sitting in PETCO when it is 120 in Phoenix.
I wish there was more money to put into this team.Phoenix has a small market, but has put out the bucks to go for it this year. Burns and Hinch set up Phoenix to succeed, I wish the same for SD.

You are right on the beauty of Petco , when Arizona is in the middle of summer
A couple things though – Phoenix is the no. 12 tv market, san diego no. 28. The d-bags from 2010 to 2011 decreased payroll, San Diego increased. Granted Arizonas was still ~$10mm more than the Padres, they were both in the bottom 6 in payroll, so its not like the dbags are really putting out the bucks.
