Vote for the pitcher on our fictional player All-Star team

It will be interesting to see if voters pick the most talented player based skill or their favorite.  Feel free to defend your vote in the comments section or to make a case for someone.

In case you don't know who some of these players, here are the links again:

Nominations:

Pitchers: Billy Chapel, Ebby Calvin 'Nuke' LaLooshPitcher Youngberry, Rick 'Wild Thing' Vaughn, Prof. Vernon K. Simpson, Amanda Whurlitzer, Steve Nebraska, Henry Rowengartner, Jack 'Deuce' Cooper, Mel Clark, Miles Pennfield II, Ryan Dunne

You can still nominate players in other positions.  I'm not going to drag out these votes, they'll be coming fast and furious.

just thinking...

but Roy Hobbs was a pitcher before getting shot and converting to right field…. if only the nomination process wasn’t over! Curses!

Vote for Nebraska

An All-Star team should be the best players in the game. Statistically speaking, Steve Nebraska was the best pitcher of the group. Nuke was wild and erratic, depending on when in the film we are talking about Rowengardner then he only had the “floater” pitch, Vaughn is a closer not a starter, and Amanda has to much of a “Zambrano” fire in her to be effective. Give me Mr. 27 K’s in a game Nebraska.

Good pick

I’m wary of him being a headcase, though. Something like Scott Olsen.

But Mel Clark

has god on his side… I assume you’re not mentioning him because he doesn’t have any votes…. yet…

Vaughn was NOT a closer

He was a starter. In the final game against the Indians Eddie Harris got the start and then Vaughn was available from the ‘pen.

against the Yanks, my bad
My bad

You’re right. I was picturing the final scene.

Either way, Vaughn is now on Two and a Half Men and I can’t bring myself to vote for that.

Bull Durham can't win

It’s too easy, too generic. What is this, Generi-ball.com?

That's right

VOTE WHURLITZER FOR PITCHER!

Thank you.
I picked Vaughn

but I’d also nominate Eddie “Bardol” Harris from major league. That dude knew how to win.

how can you ignore the skills of Miles Pennfield?

when that kid was wearing his headphones he was unhittable.

Gardenhoser, er Rowengartner

As the final scene shows us, he was a winner at every level.

Also, an aside. How inappropriate was the line uttered by Doc Kersten: “Funky butt lovin’!”? I could write a whole thesis paper on the implications of that exclamation.

Minus points

for being on the Cubs. :(

Billy Chapel getting no love

C’mon… that’s a classic movie!
