Padres trade Khalil Greene for dented Storage Chest

Greene's left hand is fractured:

As the Padres feared, shortstop Khalil Greene fractured his left hand on Wednesday night when he slammed a storage chest at Petco Park in frustration over his season-long slump.

You see, this is what happens.  This is what happens when you hold all of your emotions inside this long.  They just spill out in the form of storage chest violence.  If you told me that this would happen at the beginning of the season I wouldn't have believed you.  It's like the neighbors of serial killers, they always seem like nice gentlemen that are just simply quiet and keep to themselves.

As a Major League Ball Club, I think I'd have a punching bag room adjacent to the dugout.  Either that or have a room full of cheap crystal glasses, tea cups and malfunctioning printers so that a player can go in there and vent.  Line the room with rubber so those guys can't get hurt.

In any case Khalil is likely out for the year.

Who else has done this?

I am trying to think of the players who have injured themselves by getting in a fight with the water cooler.
Didn’t Kevin Brown do that with the Yankees?

yes. with his pitching hand.
Wasn't it a fax machine?
Regardless,

its still a tantrum that got out of hand

No pun intended?
Serenity NOW!

/Costanza’d

I wonder if Khalil got in a shouting match

with this storage chest.
maybe he thought the storage chest gave him a dirty look.

“I’m surprised that he didn’t swing and miss that storage box.”

unfortunately the storage box wasn't 3 feet off the plate
or made

entirely of curve balls.

that is...

extremely funny.

/yes, the “face” thing is going to get me a lot of mileage

I think you owe the storage box

an apology

The box is all smiles

Ugh

Flashbacks of my office. Ethernet and Dell boxes

....

....yep

still disturbing

HAY WER U BIN?

hahahhahha

good shit. give him a padres hat and a banner and we may have a rallyin kerry on our hands

refund?

shouldnt we get some money back…. life insurace doesnt pay when someone commits suicide…

since he injured himself on purpose- we should get some of his $ back…... then buy some new players….and anger management training.

maybe the'll extend the dollar off beer and dogs

til 2011

Oh boy

Greene will likely miss the rest of the season.

Iguchi

Is gonna take his spot on the roster.

If EGon goes to SS

Then the offense is looking pretty solid. Too bad that might hurt the Strasburg potential. Although the defense that would create would be, uh, interesting.

No Way

Lrod will play SS and Egon and Tad will platoon, mostly with Tad coming in as a denfensive replacement.

Probably not the best use of personnel

But whatever it takes to get the Strasburg. If its LRod’s sloppy D at SS and no Tad in the lineup, then so be it.

Edgar can't even play 2B properly

how do you think he would play SS?

He can hit waaaay better than LRod

And his defense can’t be bad enough to overcome that. You have to remember to balance the two. LRod just isn’t a good enough to defender to punt a lineup spot. The guy is a 2B trying to play shortstop, isn’t that what EGon would be too? How bad could it be?

Wait

I know how to settle this. Whatever Bud Black does, the opposite should be the correct solution, right? So we’ll settle this on the field. C’mon Harry, prove me right. Stick Luis at SS every day for the remainder.

EGon at SS would be hilarious
We have already seen

enough of EGON at short. He is not the best 2B out there but, he made his first error at 2B this week. He has made plenty at 3rd, SS, and Outfield. I love EGON. I think he should be the front runner for the 2B spot next year and we should deal Iguchi.

I don't know about you

But I saw one game of him at SS. I bet he could do better than that. I personally think we have seen enough of LRod at the plate.

I agree

I am not an Lrod fan. I really like EGon thought. I think he is the best fit at 2B since Loretta, and I really liked Loretta.

He has been pretty bad in the field

His inability to make a decision and throw to a base has happened several times. Cost us at least one game, if I’m remembering correctly.

But I would love to see a ball hit to him at short with no one on and then see him hold it as he glanced at each base, wondering where to throw it. That would be fun.

Right

But that was only because it was at the end of the game. If LRod is the superior defender, then you would have him in at the end of the game as a defensive replacement. Plus, I’m sure his bat has more than made of for the one or two miscues you mention.

There have been more than one or two

But his bat has made up for it considering that everyone else forgot how to hit.

Let's trade for Dan Uggla and put him at short
That's ridiculous

The trading deadline has passed already. This guy.

I would rather

see one or two dum fielding plays a season, than consistent 0-for-4 nights.

Off course

LRod had to make us look stupid by getting 2 hits tonight (of course one of them was Bowker Boner).

I think they changed

the scoring on that to an error. Egon broke his little slump though, and nobody hit a storage locker.

The paper bags over the head

has to start gaining traction.

pick a game...

other than friday. i’m going with family to that one.

Can't fly down this weekend

but think I am flying down for the Philly series.

Thats a great idea!
Felipe Lopez was released today

Would it be dumb to suggest the Padres pick him up?

As long as they don't expect him to play D
wow so fast to judge...

the guy was on fire last year, n he’s having a crappy season, gee lets see 100 strike outs. . . wouldnt u be pist off too if you struck out 100 times this season!? im not saying hes to bright for doing wut he did but for gods sake cut the guy some damn slack! so many players punch shit cuz they do sumthing stupid during the game, its not like this isnt the 1st time a baseball player has done shit like this! sum fans yall are!

i agree,

I remember when guys would have a bad season sometimes, but teams would stick with players for a few years. Greene has had some great seasons with us, always has the D, and probably feels worse than anybody about his season, and the way things have gone for the Padres. You need guys to be productive obviously, but in a season that has been over for us since April Greene’s bat doesn’t make or break us, and one has to figure things will go better for him next season. I can see if we were in a pennant race, and needed the contribution, but we’re not, and I hear so many people screaming trade for Greene. The padres have a history of giving guys too much rope, and pulling the plug on guys early. They tried to turn Sean Burroughs into a power hitter, messed with his swing and messed him up mentally even though he hit .300, all because they wanted power out of 3b. They got rid of him pretty quick. Then they invested a ton of time into Reuben Rivera, only to have him go to NY and steal Jeter’s glove.

As a Vulcan

Khalil should know that the “needs of the many out weigh those of the few”, he should have considered that before he took himself out of the line up for the rest of the year. Maybe he did know that and that’s why he took himself out, so that the team would be better without him.

finally someone agrees!!

i mean think about if we get rid of greene then we leave a BIG whole right there cause greene is a GREAT defensive player. his bat might be struggling right now but he is making up for it in the field! and thank god were not in a pennant race, i dont think greene would have punched wutever he punched! haha. but everyone is jus looking at batting records and all that crap, but thats where r stronger(supposibly stronger) hitters need to step up, n personally we need to get cameron back for the outfield, we need geoff blum back so we can switch up the infield, n we need edgar to sit out for a bit he isnt impressing me for being a number 2 hitter if you’re gonna keep him in then atleast move him down on the battin order, he isnt number 2 worthy! n we need last years team back. . . . oh and what happen to marcus giles?? why’d we get rid of him?? and blum?? he was great to switch out for the infield! and then cameron?? he was unbelievely good. to me atleast! i just never understood why those 3 are gone now! and where’d that mcnaulty dude. . .i think i saw him twice n now he’s gone?!? WTF? was he that bad or wut happen?

I agree

about blum. I don’t agree however about Edgar. He is the bright spot in this season for me. He had a brief slump in Pittsburgh, however the guy is hitting right around .300, and has always been a consistent hitter at whatever level of baseball he has played. His D is not the best, but is not bad, and is the best at 2B. He is really a 2B by trade. I liked Cameron, but I think Gerut and Hairston are doing a great job. Marcus Giles was worthless. His hitting was horrible, and he ended up gettin bumped from the starting lineup for guys like blum, who went on to get a good contract with houston. Would love to have Blum back to fill in at times like these. No offense to Tadahito or Lrod, but Blum is a more versatile productive player. The Padres biggest problem besides injuries this season has not been lack of offense. That was an issue last year, but they had a rock solid bullpen, and great starting pitching. The FO needs to get their philosophy together. They have a pitcher’s park, built for speed, yet I hear they are committed to power, yet they won’t pony up the $$ to get a legit power hitter in the line up or adjust the dimensions of the park. I know this is 2008 not 1986, and SS need to be productive on offense, however Kahlil shouldn’t have to be a major offensive player on this club for it to be a winner. We need big #s out of Agon, Kouz, and Headley, with speed and clutch hitting by Gerut, Hairston, Giles, and Egon. Hold a healthy pitching staff together, and build up the bullpen again, and these guys could be winners next year.

totally agree but

what happen to the paul macanulty dude? i think i spelled his name wrong but i seriously think i saw him ph 2 n actually played…once? i dont know but the little playing i saw from him wasnt that bad…can some one tell me just what happen to him. and about edgar he misses some balls that he should be catching and diving for. i mean im not watchng every single game but i was at the pittsburgh game and he got caught up on a play that could’ve been a double play if he would’ve thrown to greene and then greene rockets it over to adrian. but instead he doesnt do any of it. . .he looks at greene then adrian then back to greene and by the time he could do anything both players were safe… and i do recall he only got on base the game because of a walk. but i dont remeber.

Why are you posing with a Dodger fan in your avatar picture? Am I judging too quick again?

jbox

haha. no. and my father is a big dodger fan and he took me to spring training in fla and andre either is one of my favorite baseball players’ dodger or not. and so i took a picture with him b4 the last game at vero beach(think i spelled that wrong)

Dex was telling me that it was a real Dodger

but I told him there is no way that a Gaslamp Baller and true Padre fan like yourself would ever pose with a Dodger.

blasphemy and such?
jbox

thats not a dodger fan btw.
