I was talking to Dex yesterday and I wondered who had San Diego listed in their no trade clause. I originally only wanted to know which guys who refused to play for the Padres. I thought "Who wouldn't want to play in America's Finest City and for the Padres?!" Then I looked at our record and one of my questions was answered, but still how could you not want to live here? I concluded that you'd have to be some kinda jerk and I decided that I'd find every last one of them!
The problem was that I didn't have any idea how to search player contracts. Dex pointed me in the write direction using google and MLB4u.com . I gave up quickly trying to find everybody but I checked through all of google's results.
First let's start with the good guys. The ones that will allow a trade to San Diego without their written consent:
I think most people would agree that these two are two of the more likable players in Major League Baseball.
Now for the one guy who doesn't want anything to do with San Diego:
It makes sense that it is a Mariner a player from our biggest rival.

Sometimes players just don't want to be traded
... so they list the most likely trading parters on their no trade list. I figure picking up and moving their life, while somewhat used to it having played baseball for so long, is quite a burden. They may just want to stay where they’re signed without even considering the new location.
San Diego was linked to Beltre interest when he signed his deal with Seattle, so that may be one reason to put us on his list. I know Adam Dunn has teams with high payrolls who would most likely be able to afford him on his list, so that could be another strategy.
Or it could just have to do with where they do or do not want to play.

it ends up being an interesting set though
For example, brian giles can’t be traded to boston, baltimore, detroit and washington and 4 low-revenue clubs, which isn’t much defined beyond that. It’s understandable that maybe Giles considers the 4 low-revenue clubs non-contenders or unable to pay the salary he’d want or unable to field a solid team around him, but the 4 named is weird. Boston, but not New York? Does he dislike the Maryland/Virginia/D.C. are to pick both Baltimore and Washington? And why Detroit??

At 37, Giles may not also want to start learning how to field in the quirkiness of Fenways outfield. He may hate playing RF there.

This is nonsense.
Players who will allow a trade here are great guys, but players who refuse a trade here are jerks? C’mon. It could be that they dont like the park, the owner, manager, or maybe they have friends on another team. They may prefer a more cosmopolitan city as opposed to the sprawl of SoCal. Some players are looking to retire, others still want to win. Also, without knowing the personal circumstances of each player (family, friends, kids, houses etc), it is a pointless subject.
We need to get over our Eli inferiority complex.
