Giles already entered a plea bargain and underwent anger management in response to the abuse inflicted on his ex-girlfriend back in 2006.
Giles, 37, was required to complete anger-management counseling as part of the deal in exchange for the case being dropped, said John Tutelman of the Phoenix city attorney's office. After his counseling was completed, the case was dropped this past February.
Like many abused women his ex-girlfriend didn't want to press charges and wouldn't cooperate with police.

I'm really surprised that this was kept hidden from the press for so long. I wonder if the Padres knew? If it was a misdemeanor then he may not have to report it to his employer.
Apparently this was the criminal case that people were wondering about. Now he just faces the civil suit.

As of now the Padres haven't taken any action against Giles, but Alderson did release a statement that the Padres do not condone abuse and violence.
Tim Sullivan believes Giles needs to speak up about the charges soon. He also thinks the chances of the Padres dropping Giles contract would be remote.
Should club management decide Giles has violated baseball's Uniform Player's Contract; that he has failed, refused or neglected, “to conform his personal conduct to the standards of good citizenship and good sportsmanship,” it could consider terminating his contract and signing Hoffman with some of the money saved from Giles' $9 million salary.

I dont think the Padres can drop Giles contract...
The documented event of abuse happened in 06 its a little to late to invoke the ethics clause after he has been producing for the team for the past two years…Also the new developments are not criminal charges.

This Civil suit isn't even about the alleged abuse
It’s about the chick claiming that Giles and her had a non-marital relationship contract where he promised to pay for her and take care of her. See Marvin v. Marvin 18 Cal.3d 660 (1976).
I doubt this suit goes very far and if the chick gets anything it will be a small amount in settlement.

The very first paragraph says exactly what my comment says. The first two Causes of Action are for breach of implied and breach of express contract and is askign for damages based on marvin v mavin.

It’s not about the civil suit or whatever marvin vs marvin refers to. It’s about the fact that this woman is dragging Brian Giles through the mud and doing an extremely good job of it.
How much further does it have to go? Most people now think Brian Giles beats pregnant women. What does anybody care about a settlement at this point?

the sooner the better.
Thinking outside the box here. One could guess that Giles won’t be retiring anytime soon, not now anyways, as he will need the cash, and maybe, just maybe, Giles will be open to a trade, sooner rather than later. He needs to get to a big market club, like New York or New Jersey. Omar loves old ballplayers, and was giving away ballplayers by the handful to Seattle. Ring him up.
