Peavy dance is still a slow one as Padres look for the right partner
“From my standpoint, I think, and probably from Jake's standpoint, the earlier we do something, the better,” Towers said Wednesday night. “He's got a better sense of preparing for where he may go. For us, we've got a better idea of what we're getting back so … we have an idea of which holes we've plugged and where our needs are instead of dragging this thing out having a lot of balls in the air.”
Is it getting hot in here? Holes being plugged? Dragging things out? Balls in the air? So graphic.
PADRES: Peavy derby starts to narrow
"We're probably a little further along with Jake than we are with Khalil," Towers said. "There's a couple of clubs on (Jake's) priority list we match up well with."

I wonder if they are waiting to pick up Giles option
to see if he is willing accept a trade to another team and dont want to risk picking up the option if he is not on board.

Giles, not on board?
Willing to accept a trade?
More like the FO waiting to pick up his option because they’ve got a new found knack for strained player relations. Not only are they
cheapstruggling financially, but they are alienating everyone in the process.Giles is the total homer to stick around while the ship sinks, even as other teams fawn over his OBP.

Thats what I mean
They are dragging their feet kind of like saying…your not gonna play here next year so you can either be traded and help out your hoe town team or you can opt for FA.

One ticket please...
to hoe town!

F the FO
Giles’ OBP is OK . No FA, need him in OF and his BA is great. Get deal done ASAP.

The Cubs? Seriously? Didn't they already give all their garbage for Harden?
I thought we were trying to get something back…Rich Hill? Cedeno? Pie?…trash.

I really don't understand this either
I can’t fathom a deal with the Cubs where we would get back enough talent to make it worth our while. They could basically trade us their whole farm system and you wouldn’t even get back a player with the potential to end up as good as Jake. Maybe Josh Vitters, but he’s like 3-4 years from the majors at this point.

The only way I could accept Jake going to the Cubs
Is if it were a three-team deal, since the Cubs got squat trading value. Also, Jake would have to end up doing a reverse Jim Edmonds with a half-gainer onto the DL.

Dear god please fire Kevin Towers!
wrveres - November 6, 2008
Really?
TheThirdGonzalez - November 6, 2008
Yes
the Sludge Merchant is one of the most overrated general mangers in baseball history. Right up there with the Beane.
wrveres - November 6, 2008
What about Sandy?
He’s the one constantly whispering sweet nothings in Moores’ ear.
The Kipper - November 7, 2008
Sandy is still relativley new here
and has been busy cleaning up the sludge left behind by this man ever since.
wrveres - November 7, 2008
Then Sandy should have let the Mariners have a shot at Towers
Where are our pitching prospects KT? Le Blanc and Geer are all we have to show for a decade of drafts?
