Padres making changes

I don't know about you but that season really took a lot out of me.  There's not much left.  The Padres took just about everything from me and gave me some nasty dollar hot dogs in return.  Fair trade I guess.

  • Bard, Estes and Hayhurst are all gone.  Bard and Estes elected to test out free agency while Hayhurst was picked up off waivers by the Blue Jays.  Luke Carlin and Sean Kazmar were sent to Portland.  Bard said some clubs have shown some interest in him.  The Padres have shown some interest in picking up former Padres catcher Brad Ausmus.  Why?  Maybe the secret Padres formula of mixing inexperienced rookies with over the hill veterans will work its magic again in 2009 and we can win 80 games barely.

  • Corey Brock answers his mailbag.  I guess if we're Padres fans we should be hoping that the Padres leave Kouzmanoff right where he is.
  • You're not going to believe this:  Jake Peavy could be a perfect fit for the Atlanta Braves.  It's amazing how great players seem to fit so perfectly on just about every team.
  • This guy sent a baseball card to Bochy for an autograph at the beginning of the season and it was just sent back to him.  His link to remind us of Bochy's colossal head size is probably the best part.

Peavy to the Braves

Is as likely as Roger Clemens miraculously being found to have done nothing wrong with his entire life.

I love how it’s assumed that any southern-born baseball player seems to have “grown-up watching the ‘hometown’ Braves,” which is something they will never say until they put on a Braves uniform. For all we know, Peavy could’ve grown up watching the Astros in also relatively-close Houston, watching Nolan Ryan or something, which is why he became such a magnificent strike-out artist today.

Besides, the Braves are stingier than any politically incorrect analogy could possibly describe. Uncle Ted doesn’t own the team anymore, and the payroll has been slashed worse than a bad Wayans Bros. sequel. If they’d get Peavy, he’d somehow get hurt like all other great pitchers with no injury history (Tim Hudson, Mike Hampton, Tom Glavine part 2), and he’d limp to the end of his career.

Peavy ain’t coming to Atlanta – if it ever happens, I will fly out to San Diego next season and buy every GLBer who comes out compensation draft drinks.

Peavy has said in the past that he was a Braves fan
wtf really?

Well dang, that’s news to me. :(

Yeah...cuz you can believe everything that comes out of his mouth.
Thinks he also said he liked the Astros, right?
Peavy to the Angels

At least he’d have a legit shot at a championship. I’d hate to see him leave SD, but if he were to go, I think he’d fit well with that club.

Yes

because the Angels love trading away their top talent. They do it all the time.

I want to make an airport joke

About Peavy and if anyone’s ever taken a Delta flight, the hell that is known as Atlanta’s airport, but nothing comes to mind.

DELTA

Deliver Every Living Thing to Atlanta.

Compensation draft drinks?

Have you not met SammyG? You better bring Uncle Ted’s wallet.

I am a cheap date
Thats a legally binding contract
Yup. It is.

And one that would make it worth it for me to fly out to SD to participate. Not that I need an excuse.

Hmm

Does it lack consideration?

No. If he has to pay us, Atlanta got Peavy

Contracts that benefit 3rd persons are okay.

((Alright, it lacks consideration. But he doesn’t have to know that. Totally enforce it until you get called out on it. That’s what I say!))

hope you like buying scotch
You guys realize

That this is one of those “tempting fate” things, and it’s kind of a lose-lose situation for all parties intended:

Braves get Peavy: Means Padres get a slew of Braves dregs, including unreliable relievers, guys who can’t deliver in the clutch, and minor leaguers who will likely flame out in AA, since going outside of the Braves organization will shock them all into ineffectiveness (Bad for Padres). I have to fly to San Diego to owe all GLBers booze (Bad for me).

Braves don’t get Peavy: Braves continue to stink all through 2009, which is no concern to anyone here, but in all intents and purposes it is bad for me. However, I don’t have to buy any GLBers booze. (Bad for the rest of you.)

I like the part where we get free booze.
tee hee, he said helmet
“…And you should see my helmet. It’s even funnier.”
